BACKGROUND
The first two editions of this work were completed in 1912 and 1941 by the Hon. Grover Cleveland Ladner (1885-1954) when there was no modern real estate practice and form book in Pennsylvania, and grew from his initial efforts in preparing lectures for a course in Conveyancing, to become through the years a recognized standard work.

The Third Edition was completed in 1961 by P. Nicholson Wood (1898-1976), who practiced law with Clark, Ladner, Fortenbaugh & Young of Philadelphia. In recognizing the need for a new revision, the firm of Clark, Ladner, Fortenbaugh & Young sponsored the Revised Fourth Edition in 1979, which was completed by John Makdisi in collaboration with other members of the firm, in a complete revision of the text, extensive annotations, and forms.

THE NEW FIFTH EDITION OF LADNER ON CONVEYANCING
With this edition the text is renamed LADNER PENNSYLVANIA REAL ESTATE LAW to more accurately reflect the content and purpose of the book. In the years since the Fourth Edition was published, technological advances have increased productivity and the availability of legal information. Busy real estate practitioners need immediate access to relevant legal principles. Ladner provides a focus for these legal issues and will lead the practitioner to online sources for in-depth legal research. This latest edition of Ladner retains the best of the prior editions' dedication to the scholarly examination of the history of Pennsylvania real estate law together with the modern-day practitioner's need for immediate answers. In addition to providing the historical perspective, the new Ladner is a source for finding statutes and regulations, and for dealing efficiently with everyday real estate questions and issues.

The new Ladner is easier to navigate. Citations of cases and statutes are included in the body of the text rather than in footnotes. References are made to online sources for finding additional information and forms quickly. A descriptive word index, keyed to the chapter headings, is included.
